As a UK leader in the field of plastics extrusion, we are always looking to the future. As well as working hard to develop long-term relationships with our customers and reacting to their requirements, Extrudaseal are always looking to innovate and stay ahead of competitors.
Phthalates are commonly used as a binding agent and plasticiser to soften and increase the flexibility of a range of materials, for example, PVC (hence why rigid PVC is instead called uPVC or un-plasticised PVC). Whilst they are still widely used, phthalates are easily released into the environment and it is believed that phthalates such as DEHP can be linked to a number of health problems. As a result, some phthalates are banned from use in manufacture in some countries and it is likely that they will be banned in the United Kingdom within a matter of years.
As a forward thinking company, Extrudaseal are in the process of changing over to phthalate free material in anticipation of a ban. By ensuring that manufacture and extrusion is more tightly controlled to prevent the use of phthalates, we can provide peace of mind for our customers that there are no health risks associated with our portfolio of products, which includes:
- Glazing seals and gaskets for aluminium, timber and uPVC
- Specialist seals for a range of industrial applications
- PVC pelmets and buffers for coach building and automotive
As phthalate free materials have no mechanical disadvantages over plasticised materials, our customers can feel rest assured that we continue to offer the same diverse range of products and our reactivity and willingness to understand and react to their requirements remains.
